I've noticed that Firefox for example sometimes bypasses Orbot despite it being selected in Orbot. THIS APP IS MADE POSSIBLE BY DONORS LIKE YOU Tor Browser is free and open source. However, using Orbot in this way doesn't seem to reliably tunnel selected apps through Orbot. With Tor Browser for Android, you are free to access sites your local internet service provider may have blocked. This is only possible if the aforementioned "Block connections without VPN" option is not enabled since this would block the exempted apps from connecting to the internet. They do not require additional software or configurations to utilize Tor. Instead of using Orbot as a full device VPN it's possible to only tunnel certain apps through it and exempt others. Some apps, such as Tor Browser or Cups Messenger, have Tor built in. This leads me to conclude that Tor Browser was bypassing Orbot in the first place despite the fact that I was using it as a full device VPN. However, as soon as I toggle the "Block connections without VPN" option in the Android VPN settings Tor Browser refuses to connect. Other apps, like Tor Browser do connect to the Tor network. I assume this is because Tor over Tor isn't allowed. When using Orbot as a full device VPN, some apps that have Tor build in cannot connect to the Tor network. I'm experimenting with Orbot on Android as a full device VPN and I've noticed a few things that might be of interest to users / devs.
